Words of wisdom from Amy at Lancaster Travel

The other night, I was at a performance where I met Amy, a travel agent who shared a wealth of knowledge with me about Europe. Amy has been to Europe numerous times and she shares the same excitement and passion for travel that I do. It's clear that we both have "the travel bug." Here are some of the great things that Amy shared with me via email. Reading about all of the food, the views, and the sites has only made me more excited about my trip.

Amy's Words of Wisdom

-Paris is THE gastronomic capital of the world. Do not hesitate to taste
everything! I could go on and on with suggestions of restaurants, bake shops, chocolate
shops but I will try to be brief. At the very least, have a crepe or two. They are served at Creperie's or
street vendors. Numerous fillings can go into them.
Nutella is the bomb anytime day or night. They slather this freshly made hot
crepe with inches of nutella.

-French Macaroons...most bake shops have them and
there are several famous bakeries for them (that are SO overpriced too for
that honor.) The flavors are so cool-lavendar or mint or various fruits, tasty little
things they are...

-Ice Cream- Berthillon's, in a waffle cone no less
They are located behind Notre Dame Cathedral address 31 Rue St Louis en
l'ile. The Ile St Louis is a cute little island worth a stroll while eating your
cone

-Hot Chocolate-forget any you have ever had in the U.S, the French make it so
rich and creamy will never open a packet of Swiss Miss again.
Here are a list of some of the more popular places for it

-Cheese and Bread-taste all that you can......the fresh baked baguettes every
morning are worth the couple of euro. People stand in line every morning at
their local Boulangerie shops. I'm so dang happy just popping in and out of little shops with a baguette in
one hand, cheese in another and bottle of wine under my arm.
But sitting at a sidewalk café, drinking a café au lait (coffee with hot
milk) watching people meander is pretty nice way to spend some time.

Sights:
-Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Palace of Versailles

-Nearby Notre Dame is an interesting book store if you are interested in fine
literature and meeting a lot of writers...
Shakespeare and Company is the name address 37 Rue de la Bucherie,
within walking distance from the Cathedral

And the best advice of all...
-Keep an open mind and an adventurous palate...take along a French phrase
book-especially one with food terms in it. Please and thank you go very far
in any language, learn it in each country you are visiting.
Have a fabulous trip across europe and every pound you might gain is SOOOOO
worth it!

  1. Oh my! I'm SO jealous of how well traveled you are! I can't wait to live vicariously through you in the coming week(s). Try lots of all the different cuisines and if you haven't gained at least 10 lbs by the time you get back home, I'm going to think you didn't travel at all. =P Have fun, stay safe, and be excellent! <3
